Social Determinants of Health

The following resources demonstrate different elements with respect to the social determinants of health at the provincial level and compared to those at the federal level.

The journal article “Effectiveness of of Narrative Messaging Styles about the Social Determinants of Health and Health Inequities in Ontario, Canada” by Churchill et al., describes the most impactful ways to increase the awareness of the social determinants of health. This study found messaging sharing the challenges by those facing the negative impact of social determinants of health while still maintaining their individual accountability towards health and well-being were the most beneficial.  

 

The COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacted vulnerable individuals and communities. This “lessons learned” paper critically examines the roll out of what appeared to have been a successful implementation plan across Canada. 

 

The webpage maintained by the Government of Canada provides definitions and background information related to social determinants of health in Canada.
